Accurate, consistent and timely information for every passenger, managed from one platform.
The TAP Passenger Information System (PIS) is the central platform that keeps passengers informed across the public transport network. It calculates arrival predictions from live bus data and publishes them, together with service information and alerts, to every passenger information display at stations, stops and terminals.
PIS works as part of TAP’s integrated ITS portfolio. It draws on live vehicle data and the operator’s scheduled service, and gives the control room a single point from which all passenger-facing information is prepared and published.
The result is accurate, consistent information at every point of the network, giving passengers clarity on when their service will arrive and how the network is operating.
Overview
Real-Time Information for the Entire Network
TAP PIS brings live operational data and centrally managed content together, so every display on the network shows passengers the same accurate, current information.
- ETA prediction from live bus data
- Reference to the scheduled service
- Centralized display content management
- Content by stop, station or network
- Service alerts and disruption messages
- Publication to every display
- Integration with control-room systems
- Display faults routed to SLA management
How It Works
From Live Bus Data to Every Display
Live data from buses in service is combined with the scheduled service, converted into arrival predictions and published centrally to the network’s passenger information displays.
- 01Live vehicle position
- 02Trip progress
- 03Route and stop sequence
- 04Scheduled trip times
- 05Predicted arrival at each stop
Arrival Times Based on Live Operations
At the core of TAP PIS is its ETA prediction engine. Arrival times are calculated from the live position and progress of each bus in service, measured against its route, stop sequence and scheduled trip.
Predictions are updated continuously as buses move through the network, so the arrival times shown at each stop reflect actual operating conditions throughout the day.
Display Content
Centrally Managed, Network-Wide Content
All content for passenger information displays is prepared and controlled from one central point, then published to the displays it is intended for, from a single stop to the entire network.
What Passengers See
Clear, current information at every stop, station and terminal.
- Predicted arrival times
- Route and destination information
- Service alerts and disruption messages
- Operator information messages
What the Control Room Manages
Complete control of passenger-facing information from one platform.
- Content for individual stops and stations
- Network-wide messages
- Publication to every display
- Consistent information across the network
Service Alerts
Passengers Informed of Every Service Change
Service alerts are published from the central platform to the displays where passengers need them, keeping the network informed when operations change.
- Delays
- Cancellations
- Service interruptions
- Operator announcements
Integration
Part of TAP's Integrated ITS Portfolio
TAP PIS operates alongside TAP’s other transit systems, drawing on their data and contributing to a single, connected operation.
- 01On-Board Vehicle Equipment: live bus data
- 02Bus Scheduling System: scheduled trips and routes
- 03OCC, Integration & Data Platform: control-room view
- 04Passenger Information Displays: publication
- 05Fault / SLA Management: display faults
- 06Asset Management: display asset records
