Every vehicle reports its position, condition and passenger activity, and every driver works from a single interface.
TAP supplies, installs and integrates the complete on-board ITS package for BRT and urban bus fleets: automatic vehicle location units, multi-application driver terminals, automatic passenger counters, vehicle health monitoring, and the in-vehicle network and communication gateway that connects them to the control center.
All on-board equipment is specified as automotive-grade hardware, qualified for the vibration, temperature, humidity and electrical conditions of a working bus. Devices share a single in-vehicle Ethernet network and a common communication gateway, so location, passenger, fare, video and vehicle data reach central systems through one integrated path.
The result is a fleet in which every vehicle reports its position, condition and passenger activity in real time, and every driver has a single interface to the systems on board.
Vehicle LayouT
A Complete ITS Package, Zone by Zone
TAP equips each vehicle from the driver’s cab to the engine bay, with every device connected to the same on-board network.
Driver's Cab
- Multi-Application Driver Terminal
- AVL On-Board Unit
- Driver microphone
Doors
- Automatic passenger counters
- On-board validators
Passenger Saloon
- Internal passenger information displays
- PA speakers
- On-board CCTV cameras

In-Vehicle Network
One Data Path from Every Device to the Control Center
On-board devices share a ruggedized Ethernet network inside the vehicle. A single communication gateway carries their data to central systems over the corridor Wi-Fi network, with cellular backup.
Equipment
The Core On-Board Devices
Five device groups form the on-board ITS package. Each is supplied, installed, configured and integrated by TAP.
AVL On-Board Unit
The automatic vehicle location unit continuously determines and reports the vehicle's real-time position to the control center, forming the basis for fleet monitoring, schedule adherence, passenger information and stop-based fare validation.
- GNSS geo-location
- Dead-reckoning fallback
- Schedule and headway comparison
- Pre-defined driver messages
- Distance and trip reporting
- Automatic start on ignition
Multi-Application Driver Terminal
A single touch-screen terminal gives the driver one point of access to every ITS application on board, including location and messaging, fare equipment, passenger information and CCTV.
- Capacitive touch screen
- Single driver log-on
- Dispatcher messaging and voice
- PA announcements
- Live CCTV view
- Passenger information control
Automatic Passenger Counters
Door-mounted sensors count boarding and alighting passengers at every door, linking each count to the stop, route and trip for accurate ridership and occupancy data.
- Boarding and alighting by door
- Counts by stop, route and trip
- Wheelchair counting
- Discrimination of non-passenger objects
- Overhead or horizontal mounting
- Error and failure logging
Vehicle Health Monitoring
A vehicle health interface reads operating parameters directly from the vehicle's CAN bus and reports them in real time, with automatic alerts whenever a value exceeds its defined threshold.
- CAN bus (SAE J1939) interface
- Bus-FMS standard interface
- Real-time parameter reporting
- Threshold-based alerts
- Fault information capture
- Input to maintenance planning
Communication Gateway & Network
The vehicle communication gateway and on-board Ethernet switch connect every device on the vehicle and link the vehicle to the control center, including live video where required.
- Wi-Fi with 4G/5G fallback
- Vehicle Ethernet switch (M12)
- Communication antennas
- Depot data offload over Wi-Fi
- Full-duplex link for live video
- Remote software updates
